Laparoscopic Surgery

The trend in all surgery is toward minimally invasive procedures. They are called laparoscopic (or key hole) operations. Our practice was the first in the entire Northwest (including Alaska) to perform laparoscopic obesity surgery.

The surgeons at SWLC are experts in laparoscopic surgery. For the patient, a laparoscopic gastric bypass (GBP) is less disabling than a regular open GBP. The hospital stay is usually 24 hours or less and the time off needed from work is often less than a week.

Soon, the time will come when virtually all obesity operations will be done laparoscopically.

The two most popular operative procedures for the treatment of severe obesity are the gastric bypass and the adjustable gastric band. These are performed worldwide with remarkable success in providing permanent, significant weight loss.
